As Feature Flag Use Skyrockets 300%, Split Expands Free Developer Toolset

REDWOOD CITY, CA, March 16, 2021 – Split, the leading feature delivery platform, today announced a new suite of developer tools that expand feature flagging and progressive delivery workflows, available for free. This comes as the use of feature flags has accelerated – growing at 300% annual rate – during the COVID pandemic, as consumers use apps more widely across work and home environments and developers manage remote collaboration. The expanded free developer toolset includes developer workflow integrations, a command line interface, API access, and audit logging. Trevor Stuart, co-founder and President of Split, describes that this expansion “builds off of the success the product has already seen in the market. Thousands of developers have used Split’s Free Edition over the past year to manage feature flags in their production applications.”

Expanded suite of developer workflow integrations

Split announced the availability of developer workflow integrations for free, in addition to enhancements to the popular Jira ticketing system. Developers can now integrate with Jira, Slack, New Relic, Datadog, AppDynamics, Jenkins, PagerDuty, Amplitude, FullStory, and SumoLogic as part of the free developer toolset. Given the addition of the API, any community contributed integrations built on top of Split’s API are also included. “These integrations unlock the ability for developers to export a record of feature flag evaluations to enrich their monitoring, logging, chat, task tracking, product analytics, and on-call systems.”

Streamlined collaboration with new Jira integration

New Jira enhancements enrich each Split feature flag with context from Jira: the issues associated with the flag, who is responsible for the issue, and the issue status. Trevor Stuart explains “teams can more effectively release and manage feature flags with Split’s new Jira integration. All team members stay in the loop about the latest status of a flag and what percentage has been rolled out to customers.”

Command line interface for feature flags

Split today announced a command line interface (CLI) to make it simple for developers to manage feature flags and product experiments. The new CLI supports key software development workflows including adding a feature flag, updating user segmentation, progressing a feature from staging to production, and defining rollout plans. Developers can now turn on, turn off, and ramp a feature flag from their terminal windows without having to navigate away from their work.

API and audit logs now available free for developers

Split today extended access to the Split API and audit logs for all developers using the free edition. Extending API access is of paramount importance to developers that want to send data to and from Split, build custom integrations, and build on top of the Split platform. API access also includes new capabilities to automate user management and to scope access between staging and production. Free developer access to the API makes it simple to automate tasks in deployment and release workflows, enabling teams to work faster. In addition, Split now includes audit logging in the free edition for developers. Audit logs create a record of every change made to a feature flag or experiment, supporting compliance and bug tracking requirements for development teams.
